22, King's Parade, Cambridge.

(If it's in red and underlined then it's a link to more information)

The building itself is in King's Parade and opposite King's College.  The one address is huge for the area.

By pure co-incidence it is presently occupied by a "General Tailors and Robemaker" called Ryder & Amies.  I was lucky enough to be able to speak with one of the owners. He told us that he thought that before they took over the building, and they had been there for some years, it had been a private house.  He spoke of the 'huge range' in the basement that would have cooked for and army.  It was apparently still in the basement but had been hidden by storage shelves. Their paper bags (close the picture to return here) for purchases includes a cartoon of the shop "C.1900" which includes the Ryder & Amies sign. See also: www.ryderamies.co.uk  which has another view of the shop in relation to King's College.

Stephen Barnes had a large family or, rather, mostly a step family, but this is still a very large house for one town centre family.
