This is an email from someone who having found this website took the time to contact me.

She is descended from Henry Francis Fynn.

"Francis Fynn married Elizabeth Copestick - originated from North of Ireland before moving to Africa

We come from Zimbabwe (Ex Rhodesia) and from what my father tells me his
Grand Father traveled from South Africa to Zimbabwe (ex Rhodesia) his name was  Henry  Fynn bn
Graham Villa, Transkeie CC 16/12/1870 - 31/1/1919. These dates I assume are the dates that he arrived in
Transkeie and the last date is when he came to Southern Rhodesia.

My father's father was Francis Fynn

I know my father had  brothers called DANEIL who died a few years ago
There was also William who was only ever spoken about in hushed wispers as
he committed sucide.
And then my Father Edward Joeseph

My Father tells me that his grandfather always spoke of his family in
England  and were brought up knowing we had no family in Zimbabwe only in
England.
My grandparents were quite well off and owned lots of property and shops
etc. We have only kept 1 farm which was the original and all the rest have
been sold off (as my father was never interested in the land). We never knew
where the money came from only that it was there. A lot of the land owned by
them was donated to local churches and a school was built on a section of
the land.

Am not sure if you can help me by filling in the missing pieces just
thought I should try as we might turn out to be related in some way."

I replied:

"I fear I cannot say that we are related. My research into the Henry Francis Fynns (as there were 5) shows no connection with the Cambridge Fynns. There may be a connection but I cannot find it.

If you go to our website: http://www.regency.eclipse.co.uk/henry_francis_fynn.htm you will find as much as we know. The books mentioned contain considerable information on the Fynns in South Africa.

There is also a family tree to download: http://www.regency.eclipse.co.uk/HFFTree.xls. The latter does include a Henry Tempest Grey Fynn born in Transkeie in 1870. He was the 5th older of 8 children born to William Rafferty Donald Fynn. I have done no work on his children as the whole task was running away with itself! Parts of the family "went native" some in South Africa and some in Ghana. The latter part has turned up in the USA.

I leave you to browse the site.

Good luck in your research.
