Geoffrey Hyde Fynn: Born 12th
February 1893 in Cherryhinton Road, Cherryhinton, Cambridge. (See below for a
note on the spelling of Cherry Hinton.) His father, John Fynn again describes
himself as a Tailor (Master). (Geoffrey's
Birth Certificate)
At the time of the 1901 census Geoffrey was
living with his parents at "Overstream House", Victoria Avenue,
Chesterton.
 |
Geoffrey
later married Edith @@@@ on 18th
December 1915 at St Luke’s, Chesterton. (Certificate)
Geoffrey
gave his occupation as "Private, 1/3 Cambridgeshire Regiment." He
apparently married from his home, "Overstream House" and Edith gave 226 Victoria Road as her
address. Henry @@@@, Edith’s father had formerly been an "Officer, HM
Prison." Henry @@@@ and Florence "Cissy" Darby were witnesses.
The picture was taken at the time of the wedding. Edith had lived
in Hull at the time of the 1901 Census. Perhaps her father was working
at Hull Prison at the time.

They had two children:
Geoffrey Wilfred Fynn: (My
father) Born 20th April 1918. He was educated at St John’s
Choir School and went to work at the Cavendish Laboratories in Cambridge as a Laboratory Assistant in the
mid-1930’s. He was brought up at 208 Victoria Road, Chesterton. In his youth, he made canoes and
paddled them throughout the Cambridgeshire rivers. See Geoffrey
Wilfred Fynn.

Edith Mary Fynn: Born 2nd
April 1927 in Cambridge. Mary latterly lived at "Green Gates"
Histon Road, Cambridge until her death in 2005. The family first moved
to the bungalow in 1939.
She and her husband, Seton Mitchell (by family co-incidence also a
former College Butler) spent their time looking after their beloved
gardens. See also

Geoffrey Hyde Fynn gave, at the time of his
marriage to Edith, his occupation as "Private, 1/3 Cambridgeshire Regiment."
This apparently was when he was a tailor making officer's
uniforms. He progressed to being a master tailor and remained
working as such until his retirement in the 1960's. He maintained
a workshop at "GreenGates" (see picture left) where I can
recall him working and indeed it still existed the last time I was there
in 2005. Click to enlarge picture -
