John and Sarah Fynn's headstone. (If it's in red and underlined then it's a link to more information) On Tuesday 22nd July 2003, we were in Cambridge and about to leave to return to Exeter when Sandra suggested we look for gravestones. A visit to the Central Library in Lion Square revealed nothing and so knowing from his death certificate that John's home in Tennis Court Road was in the parish of St Mary the Less, we decided that was a good place to start the search. The church itself (now called Little Saint Mary's) is in Trumpington Street, Cambridge sandwiched between Peterhouse College and Little St Mary's Lane. For more details and some pictures of the church see Little St Mary's. The churchyard to the east (Trumpington Street) side and the north (Little St Mary's Lane) side is well manicured and recent memorial stones are carefully placed in a chamomile lawn. To the west of the church is a 'wild flower' area. In the church, Sandra lit two candles; one to her mother and another to the Fynns and then went to search the overgrown wild flower area. Within minutes she came back to say she had found 'the grave'. The headstone is situated almost in the centre of the garden and is alongside a path, Someone had recently cleared away ivy from the face of the stone. We have carefully de-ciphered the inscription which reads:
